The National Tree is The Mango Tree

Mango is the national fruit of three countries.  India, Pakistan, Philippines.  And in our country?  National tree!  No other country in the world has given mango tree the status of a national tree.  As per the decision of the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on November 15, 2010, mango tree was declared as the national tree.  There are several reasons why the mango tree was declared as a national tree.

*Mango grows easily all over the country.

*There is talk of mango tree in our national anthem.  ‘O Ma Fagune, your mango forest is crazy about the smell ...’

* During the great language movement, a historic decision-making gathering was held at the Amtala of Dhaka University.

*On 16 April 1971, the Mujibnagar government of independent Bangladesh was formed at Amrakan in Vaidyanathtala.  It is located in Meherpur district.

*On 23 June 1757, Sirajuddaula, the last Nawab of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, was defeated by the British at Palashi's mango orchard.

*Mango wood can be used to make furniture and also as fuel.

*Mango is the best fruit.  Delicious to eat.
